Competition

The About Us poetry and coding competition, on the theme of ‘connectivity and the universe‘, is now open. You can enter a poem or a Scratch project, or both. The deadline is 23:59 GMT 19 December 2021.

The competition is open to anyone aged 4-18 on the closing date of 19 December 2021. It is FREE to enter and you can submit as many entries as you wish. Entries should explore the infinite ways we are connected to the universe, the natural world, and one another. Find out more here, and read the rules.   • Poems should be no more than 20 lines long. Coding entries must not exceed 90 seconds in length.
  • Poetry entries are accepted in English or Welsh, but you can include phrases in your mother tongue or another language.
  • If you would like to enter in Braille or British Sign Language, or if you require any information about the competition in an alternative format, please contact [email protected].

Win amazing prizes and the chance to see your work featured in a major live show. All entrants will receive an e-certificate for participating in this competition.

Scratch Story: Natalie uses the Scratch programming language to create original art and interactive projects.

Here’s how to enter a Scratch submission:

  • Register your entry online at aboutus.earth/apply (participants under the age of 12 will need some help from an adult)
  • Log in to/create a Scratch account
  • Create a Scratch animation on the theme ‘connectivity and the universe’ (e.g. space/the human body/animals)
  • Click on the My Stuff button near the top right of the web page
  • Read the information on the far right to check which projects have been shared
  • Click the title of the project to share
  • Click the Share button
  • Add link to aboutus.earth ‘add a poem’ page to submit an entry
